How to Boost Your Learners' Success Rate in Any Exams Without Mal-practices

Richard (not his true name) had been a high-flying pupil in all the primary schools he attended until he got to my school.

His first exam here revealed he'd always been assisted to pass his exams.

During his first exam with us which he wrote in an atmosphere that compared to high standard and supervised exams like JAMB,Richie would look under his locker and then came up to write. He would repeat that over and over again until his mate called his name out:" Richieeee...you are cheating".

During his interrogation,he confessed he and his friends were always encouraged to look into their books whenever they found answering a question difficult during any exams in his former schools.Mind you,Richie came  to my school from great schools in Lagos.

This is a true story and not a fiction. The parents ended up commending us as the first and only school that showed them the true capacity of their son in academic.

 Why Schools Encourage Examination Malpractices

To remain competitive,to attract new enrollment, to increase their income,to make up for their poor teaching...these and many more are why schools encourage malpractices and sometimes hire mercenaries to help their learners cheat in some difficult exams.

Why the schools may achieve their objectives with exam malpractices, the outcome of these vices are more than we can imagine now and in the future. The damages will be far-reaching.

It is a weak way to raise people and the workforce who will go out to become professionals to manage every sector including the very sensitive ones that require well-bred professionals to handle.

How to Improve Raise Learners with Excellent

Raising our students to become top performers in school in internal or external exams may not be a walk in the park! However it is achievable and very beneficial in a large scale.

The following will assist any schools to achieve this:

(1)be deliberate about raising all your learners(or most of them)to 90 percentile performers in academics from the onset.

Teachers should set out at the beginning of the term with a goal that at least 90% of their class population moves to scoring excellent grades.

They should teach, work and exercise their learners to achieve this goal.

(2)parents should be carried along with their children's real academic strengths.

Most often,I call parents to brief them about the true state of their children's academic and hint on the likelihood of their children failing in the coming exam far ahead of time.

We don't paddle results at all.Instead,we send it to parents as they're.26% a student scored in an exam will not become 62% or a 92%!

(3)prepare your students with an intensive and rigorous academic with a regular reviewing of pass questions under examination conditions.

Don't wait till exam arrives before you drill your learners with mock tests, speed and accuracy tests etc.

(4) review with your learners the likely(you read this well) exam questions.

Avoid treating the main exam questions you will set for them in their 1st Term,2nd Term or 3rd Term  exams during your mock or class test, but don't set questions on subjects you have not taught them . Questions that will throw the students out of balance or that they're not familiar with should be avoided.

(5) teach your learners to practice chains of questions before their real exams.

If you want your learners to be mathematics genius, please introduce them to question banks and make your students  solve an average of 100s of mathematics questions correctly every term from Basic 1!This applies to other subject areas too.Try it and see the results.

(6)motivate your learners to strive for excellence in exams and in a legitimate way.

Introduce reward system and encourage even the lay-back students among your learners to strive to win.

Now That We are Set for Our Termly Exams

I am certain most schools here are starting their exams soon

If this holds to be true, please let your school make it another time your learners will prove their mettle.

Let your school conduct her exams professionally and competently.

The era of writing exams on the chalkboard or typing them in faded inks and small papers have gone.

Let your questions be unambiguous and avoid setting questions your learners will not pass because you have not taught them about the subjects.

By now, your students should be familiar with CBT exams.Don't encourage them to cheat because it is better to fail with dignity than to pass with fraud.
